Leake and Watts Services Assistant Director of Home Finding Department in Brooklyn, New York
Responsible for coordinating Home Finding activities in the Home Finding Department, including planning and coordinating a comprehensive professional foster parent development training program, case management, promoting placement of children and provision of services related to permanency goals. Work includes staff supervision, interpretation of policies and compliance directives. Work is performed under the supervision of the Home Finding Director.
Responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of the Home Finding Program, including assessment of potential and existing foster homes, recruitment of families for foster care and adoptions and compliance reviews and responding to the training development needs of foster parents
Responsible for conducting supervision with the Home Finding team bi-weekly, daily timecard approval and addressing any performance issues as they arise.
Responsible for monitoring staff activities to ensure appropriate, expeditious and successful placements, communicate goals and priorities regarding the suitability of homes and families for foster children.
Meet with the Department Director on a weekly basis to discuss Department needs, homes within the pipeline and staff performance.
Assume fully supervision of the department when the Director is out of the office.
Ensures that foster homes are adequately assessed, monitored and compliant with regulatory requirements, including safety and protection guidelines; ensure timely completion of home studies within timelines established by NY State OCFS/ACS.
Recruit foster parents; seek out potential resources, i.e., professional organizations, churches; coordinate and participate in public affairs events, i.e., speaking engagements, attend recruitment meetings and adoption fairs.
Provide resources for foster parents; provide NYSDSS regulations booklet; update the Foster Parent Manual, as necessary to help parents remain current; provide training to new foster parents.
Coordinate, facilitate and monitor the foster parent support groups
Collaborate with Adoption Family Foster care, Health Services, Permanency support departments to ensure continuity and support to families supported.
Assess training needs for new and existing foster parents; Provide one on one trainings as needed; Develop a monthly foster parent training calendar; Send out correspondence monthly regarding trainings offered internally and externally for foster parents; Develop new training resources
Coordinate and facilitate pre-service trainings such as GPS/MAPP,Mini-MAPP, “Deciding Together” and recertification trainings.
Coordinate and facilitate training at FBH Brooklyn and Bronx office locations.
Prepare foster parents records for the annual training audit
Participate in agency program meetings; Participate in training network meetings
Participate in joint home visit assessments as indicated by policy and procedures.
Able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Assist in the supervision of the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids team
Monitor goals for Adoption and Wendy’s Wonderful Kids.
Must be willing to work in Brooklyn and Bronx sites.
Other tasks assigned.
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related area from an accredited College/University.
A minimum of two years’ experience in Home Finding, planning and implementing Foster/Adoptive Parent training and/or Foster Care Case work experience, preferably in a social service setting. Two years of demonstrated successful supervisory experience preferred.
LGBTQ certification preferred
General Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Spanish fluency is a plus. Knowledge of Connections, adoption, and home finding procedures inclusive of all NYSDSS requirements regarding certification of a foster home preferred.
