The Rowe laboratory at Boston Children’s Hospital, is seeking a highly motivated, responsible, conscientious, and detail-oriented individual to join our ongoing efforts to uncover the molecular mechanisms that regulate stem cell activation, blood developmental and malignant transformation. The successful candidate must be a quick learner who can quickly acquire new skills and works well in a team. In addition to providing technical research support to lab members, the position will also include maintaining pluripotent stem cell culture, mouse husbandry, and using mouse models of normal and malignant stem cell transplantation.
This is a great opportunity for a student with interest in laboratory science and/or medicine to gain valuable experience and mentorship.
Ideal start date will be December 2019-January 2020 or as soon as possible after that.
This Research Assistant II will be responsible for:
Assisting with experimental procedures involving mice, including irradiation, cell transplantation, injection of compounds, as well as routine monitoring for health and surgical procedures.
Isolating cells and tissues from experimental animals, and preparing these cells for subsequent analysis by flow cytometry, molecular analysis, immunohistochemistry, cell culture or transplantation.
Culturing mammalian cells using sterile techniques.
Cellular analysis including immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, DNA / RNA isolation, PCR, and other molecular biology techniques.
Maintaining accurate, detailed, and up-to date record regarding all procedures performed and results obtained.
Operating instruments such as flow cytometer and microscopes.
Ensuring safe laboratory practices and compliance with institutional research guidelines.
To qualify you must have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related discipline; MA or MS in these areas will also be considered.
Willingness to work with animals and animal and human tissues.
Strong organizational, management and communication skills, and an ability to recognize and prioritize responsibilities.
Ability to work hard –independently as well as with others as a team in a productive manner.
Willingness to commit to two years.
