Manager, Research Lab

Department Description:We are a Translational MRI Research Division. Our research involves developing new MRI scanning methods, testing them in patients and normal subjects, and using MRI for studies of diseases and their treatment.

Job Summary:Responsible for the daily operations of the laboratory including both administrative duties and direct involvement in the research endeavors of the lab.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Independently responsible for the daily operations of the laboratory including both administrative duties and direct involvement in the research endeavors of the lab. (essential)

  2. Coordinates and oversees the work of research personnel; implements research schedules and ensures the quality of lab procedures. (essential)

  3. Remains current in the technologies used in the lab and participates in improving operations of the lab, both administratively and scientifically. Recommends and implements changes. (essential)

  4. Supervises, orients and trains staff; ensures compliance to lab safety guidelines and accurate record keeping. May oversee lab equipment needs, inventory and the ordering of common lab supplies. . (essential)

  5. Establish and update written procedures for facility usage, scheduling, billing, and safety.

  6. Ensure the smooth running of the MRI research department by developing systems to track projects including all study, investigator and ethical review board information, patient recruitment activity and scanner utilization.

  7. Manage facility finances including budget planning, resource allocation and preparation of quarterly reports.

  8. Interface with research facility users to develop budgets and procedures for imaging studies.

  9. Promote facility use through outreach to local research community.

  10. Host study specific meetings; attend various operational meetings and bimonthly departmental group meetings, lead discussions on research and administrative procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or Related Field required. Master's degree preferred.

  • 5-8 years related work experience required.

  • BA/BS and 5-7 years' progressively more resonsible experience OR MA/MS and 5+ years experience

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

  • Team Work:Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

  • Customer Service:Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
