The Career Advisor provides guidance to his/her caseload to ensure students have the best opportunity to achieve their educational goals. Career Advisors are responsible for the engagement and progression of students and play a pivotal role in promoting student success to ensure they reach key benchmarks throughout their academic program. This position serves the undergraduate and graduate student population for the Boston campus.
Responsibilities: Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Advising (55%) Provide career advising services weekly; in the form of ? hour scheduled appointments, 15 minute same-day drop-ins, and department email Present workshops throughout the year on fundamental career development topics (resume, cover letter, interviewing, networking, job search); promote CPCD services at student organization meetings CPCD liaison for assigned academic programs; develop partnerships with faculty & staff; provide resource information for use by CPCD and inclusion in the employability programs; maintain working knowledge of assigned employment markets; report on trends and changes associated with academic programs and relevant labor markets
Training and Education (30%) Produce workshop presentations per request/need of student organizations, academic programs, classroom seminars, and in collaboration with student services colleagues (residence life, academic resource, student activities); or as assigned to support CPCD goals Serve as department liaison and member to campus committees developed and designed to support students from marginalized and/or high-need/risk populations and groups Interface with community organizations/employers relating to career information and opportunities for students including shadow programs, volunteer, and internship positions. Oversee the complete operation of the CPCD?s Career Ambassador program; including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising of staff/student workers Develop and implement Career Ambassador outreach plan including targeted emails, monthly tabling, social media campaigns, and monthly newsletter
Planning and Reporting (10%) Actively engage in department-wide assessment and strategy initiatives through the development, execution, tracking, recording, reporting, training, and updating of goals, as they relate to overall performance goals, assessment goals, annual team goals, quarterly team goals, quarterly individual goals, and yearly individual goals Assist in collection, tabulation, and analysis of outcomes information for students and other stakeholders including the month end reports
Other (5%) Co-develop and update electronic (BlackBoard) and paper (handouts/brochures) resources for Boston-based students Contribute to the project assignments of department student staff Oversite of CPCD social media strategies and deliverables
Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.
Required: Bachelor?s degree in psychology, counseling, education or other related discipline or comparable credential in workforce development or human resources Minimum of 3 years of experience in career advising or coaching on a college campus Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver energetic and engaging presentations Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to follow procedures and protocol establish by supervisor. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software Ability to work effectively and independently in a fast paced environment Ability to travel to other MCPHS campuses
Preferred: Master?s degree in psychology, counseling, education or other related discipline or comparable credential in workforce development or human resources
