The Language Access & Development department carries out the company’s written language access activities. This ensures our members and prospective members have access to health insurance information in a language and format that they can understand, so they can make informed healthcare decisions.
Participants in this internship position will become familiar with federally mandated language access regulatory compliance requirements, with the department’s language fulfillment process and cycle with health insurance technical terminology and other translation industry nuances.
Intern will assist Enterprise Translation Specialists with in-house Spanish language translation projects.
Intern will have the opportunity to polish his/her Spanish language skills and take them to the next level.
Assist in translating content and documents from English into Spanish or vice versa, proofreading texts and suggest alternate translations if necessary in order to optimally convey the meaning of the source text.
Review and edit translations of health insurance documents, marketing materials, legal notices and other documents from English to Spanish in collaboration with the rest of the translation and post-production team to ensure consistency in the use of terminology and adherence to style guidelines.

Conduct research, provide feedback and input in technical terminology usage and proper use of language.
Degree program(s) / Current Status:
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree program in English<>Spanish Translation, linguistics, or communications related field. Minimum bachelors level or equivalent
Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent or higher)
Have obtained one of the university degrees indicated above and apply for the internship within one year of graduation.
Cumulative GPA: 3.0 preferred; 2.8 minimum cumulative GPA.
Relevant Experience: Spanish proficiency level (speak, read, write)
Native or bilingual proficiency level equivalent in the ILS scale, or
Mastery or proficiency level equivalent in the CEFRL scale
Solid writing, editing and research skills.
Keen attention to detail is a must.
Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Responsible, responsive and enthusiastic.
Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.
Knowledge of translation software (e.g. SDL Trados) and use of translation memories is preferred but not required.
