Technical Writer

job summary:

One of our Austin is looking for a Technical Writer who will be responsible for creating, editing and formatting documents produced for our clients Consulting Custom-Managed Solutions for network and security operations. These documents include processes, procedures, guides, runbooks, reports, and any other documentation in various subject areas, such as software installation and configuration, network and security monitoring, Information Technology (IT) operations, and contract-related deliverables and reports.

Writers must have two (2) to three (3) years of professional experience writing technical documents. They must have strong writing skills and possess the ability to take highly technical information and make it accessible to an audience with or without a technical background. Writers, in addition to being able to create and format documents, must be able to create and maintain templates, as well as maintain an organized library of CCMS documents.

responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain internal and customer-facing processes and procedures.

  • Develop and maintain documentation in the following subject areas:

  • software installation and configuration,

  • data monitoring,

  • network architecture and design,

  • runbooks and use cases,

  • configuration guidelines,

  • disaster recovery plans

  • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to obtain information required to create documentation and follow up with the experts to ensure accurate documents are being released.

  • Work with the team to develop standardized documentation processes, including for IT, network, and security documentation.

  • Create, update and maintain internal and customer-facing documentation.

  • Create, update and maintain document templates.

  • Create and maintain an organized document library structure that houses the documents created for the CCMS.

  • Diligently follow the accepted peer review process, from writing to delivering documents to the client.

  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) reviews of all outgoing documentation.

  • Facilitate the handoff of product/system support via knowledge transfer.

  • Collaborate with AT&T CCMS project teams to share knowledge and to promote best practices.

  • Work with stakeholders to form consensus on methods and scope of documentation deliverables to meet project milestones.

  • Create and manage a documentation delivery plan based on application/system deliverables.

  • Effectively communicate with team members, SMEs, and AT&T management to ensure timely delivery of quality documentation.

  • Deliver multiple high-priority documentation projects simultaneously as needed.

  • Provide periodic and ad-hoc status updates to immediate supervisor and upper management, including documentation progress and estimated time required to complete assignments.

  • Maintain a flexible work schedule that allows for addition of new assignments and modification of existing deadlines to ensure timely delivery of quality documentation.

qualifications:

Qualifying Experience and Attributes

  • At minimum two (2) to three (3) years of experience as a Technical Writer.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality documentation under tight deadlines and evolving objectives.

  • Highly-motivated self-starter with demonstrated ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Strong team collaboration skills.

  • Knowledge of product/systems development lifecycle.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Visio and Office Suite.

  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with writing and publication tools.

Preferred Experience and Attributes:

  • Some knowledge of network security, Information Technology (IT) and/or data communication.

  • Interest in producing and maintaining standardized, accurate, and effective IT, network and security documentation, including runbooks, configuration guidelines and disaster recovery plans.

  • Highly motivated individual with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
