St. David's Surgical Hospital, a campus of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, is a destination surgical hospital specializing in orthopedic, neurological, bariatric, gynecological and urological surgery, among others. Located in North Austin, the facility includes a 146,381-square-foot hospital with 40 inpatient rooms, 10 operating room suites, 11 pre-op bays, 19 post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays, a six-bed intensive care unit (ICU), imaging, pharmacy and lab services.
The St. David’s HealthCare Registered Nurse (SDHRN) fulfills an important role as a central patient care provider responsible for the coordination and delivery of patient centered nursing care. As a full partner of the healthcare team, the SDHRN collaborates with all other healthcare disciplines to achieve successful execution of the patient’s plan-of-care. The SDHRN utilizes physical assessment skills and advanced diagnostic technology to aid in the assessment of the patient’s nursing care needs. Data collected is analyzed, synthesized and disseminated to other healthcare providers. The SDHRN continues to monitor and assess the patient’s physical condition, emotional and social needs, continually refining the plan-of-care to ensure achievement of the desired goals of the patient and facility outcomes.Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction. * * * *_KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES_: The SDHRN ensures all nursing care provided meets the standard of care. The SDHRN demonstrates knowledge of national patient safety goals, hospital core measures, performance improvement processes and service excellence quality initiatives. The SDHRN demonstrates at minimum, basic computer skills related to the role and care of the patient.Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David’s Surgical Hospital

_Education/Experience:_ Required: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. One year of experience in operating room environment (unless in an internship program for the operating room.) Preferred: Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree.
_Licenses/Certifications:_ Required: Licensed by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Current certification as BLS Healthcare Provider Preferred: CNOR
_Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:_ Demonstrates effective working knowledge of equipment used in work area. Demonstrates effective guest relations with internal and external customers. Demonstrates knowledge of Meditech and general computer skills. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information. Participates in budget control by using only those supplies necessary within the work area. Demonstrate an understanding of HCA's and St. David's "Patient First" safety initiatives through strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures. Works autonomously, sets priorities and makes decisions of a complex nature Accepts shift work and takes call as needed by the department. Works with patients ranging in life span from infants to geriatric.
