Interstate Hotels & Resorts Corporate Senior Manager, Talent and Career Development in Arlington, Virginia
The Talent Development Manager plays a critical role on the Talent team in designing structures, tools and programs to support associate and leadership development and ensure appropriate people management solutions are aligned with the business needs. This position supports the talent development team to ensure programs are aligned with Interstate’s values and culture and help motivate and engage associates so that they will expand their skills resulting in higher retention.
This position will partner with the Director of Talent and Culture in supporting and facilitating initiatives to drive talent development including but not limited to: succession planning, design of training and development systems, including a performance management and feedback system and identifying career pathways and appropriate training and development opportunities. Occasionally, this individual will work in conjunction with the Director of Training to facilitate training programs throughout the portfolio.
The Talent Development Manager will have extensive contact with various stakeholders including corporate and property-level leadership teams and associates as well as current and potential vendors.
The position requires executive presence and the ability to add value to individuals and the organization by designing effective and engaging development programs. This person must demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills with all stakeholders.
Training development and design: 55%
Collaborate with the talent development team on the content development and design of various proprietary Interstate training with specific focus on in person training programs. On occasion and when needed, facilitate virtual training or recorded training that supports other company-wide programs
Assist in the build out of the company career paths including: the identification of high potential individuals, the identification of competencies, training, experience and development needed to support success in each career path.
Works in conjunction with Talent Development team and Operational Leaders to develop leadership succession management process to engage and retain key talent. This includes playing a role in assessing candidate readiness, gaps and assessing retention risks.
Support the creation and implementation of leadership assimilation programs, company-wide coaching, and mentoring programs.
Work in conjunction with VP Talent and Culture to coordinate and build out assessment programs to include performance appraisals, assessments and other programs to foster a performance and feedback-based culture.
Collaborate with Talent Acquisition and HR Business Partners to determine the best way to attract qualified applicants for job openings based on success of high performers.
Associate Engagement and Recognition: 25%
Work closely with the VP Talent and Culture and Corporate Communications on initiatives and activities for culture and employee engagement including the administration of the company-wide associate engagement surveys
Partner with VP Talent and Culture and the Benefits department to create and implement recognition and rewards programs that support the overall company strategy. This includes the administration and execution of the company’s annual awards program.
Assess talent departures and work in conjunction with VP Talent and Director Talent Acquisition to develop retention strategies.
Main point of contact for training related systems
Responsible for pre and post facilitation activities to include: scheduling of trainings, communication with participants, preparation of materials, travel arrangements to and from location, post training surveys and appropriate follow up.
Organize and manage a Leadership Training calendar for the company, ensuring all leadership programs are occurring on a regular basis and meeting the needs of the company
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (10%)
Perform special projects and other ad hoc responsibilities as assigned. Participate in task force, work groups and committees as required. Actively work with team to help develop and drive company-wide talent strategy.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
2-4 years of experience in designing tools, systems or trainings related to performance management, leadership development and talent selection.
Experience interacting with various stakeholders including corporate and property level leadership teams and associates.
Hotel training experience highly preferred; experience training in a large, multi-state, multi-unit company with a non-homogenous-workforce required.
Experience in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment with the ability and desire to help shape the talent development team and flexibly shift responsibilities as the role and department shift over time.
