Trinity Health Intake Specialist in Ann Arbor, Michigan

The Intake Specialist position is an administrative position, working within a team. Duties include fielding calls from new patients, scheduling appointments with clinicians, collecting demographic information to complete hospital registration, verification of insurance eligibility and benefits. Fast-paced environment requires excellent communication & customer service skills, the ability to organize and multi-task, work with multiple computer-based systems.

*GENERAL SUMMARY:*

Provides front line support to SJM Behavioral Services - Outpatient triage/intake systems through the performance of phone screenings, assigning prospective patients to therapists, assisting receptionists with urgent or overflow patient phone calls, assisting occasional walk-in clients, assisting with maintenance of the intake database and monthly reports on intake activity, covering for intake clericals when needed.

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*

Under general direction of the Office Coordinator, provides intake services to callers and walk-ins requesting outpatient mental health services, scheduling appointments, and providing referral to outside agencies for those patients whose needs cannot be met by SJMHS Outpatient Behavioral & Psychiatric Services.

Coordinating available appointment times and skills of clinical staff with callers qualifying for services.

Assists in maintaining intake logs, collecting demographic information, collecting and reporting data to leadership. Other program related duties as assigned.

Demonstrates Unit and Behavioral Services Program-designated competencies. Actively collaborates in the Performance Development Process.

Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health Systems. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships with staff, patients and referral sources. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner, helps identify problems, offers solutions, and participates in their resolution.

Assumes the responsibility for the performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

Education, Experience, Licensure

Minimum requirements: 2 years of college credit in a bachelor's or associate's degree, preferably in social work, psychology or similar field; or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to deal effectively by phone with individuals with limited functional capacity, including psychiatric impairments. Ability to type 35 wpm. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with referral sources & patients; and to interact effectively with SJMHS staff and the public when answering questions or relaying and obtaining information. Organizational skills necessary to maintain detailed records and assist in coordinating office practices and procedures. Must demonstrate ability to exercise initiative in establishing priorities and accomplishing a wide variety of tasks.
